Hamad Alshamlan is a Research Fellow at GLAFPOL, where he specializes in analyzing and identifying security and governance challenges in Somalia. His responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting in-depth research and leading the production of our monthly analytical briefs, ensuring our insights are both timely and impactful.
Hamad joins GLAFPOL from Harvard University, where he recently earned a master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies. During his time at Harvard, he immersed himself in a diverse range of research interests, including the history, politics, and society of the modern Arab world and its complex interactions with the Western world. Prior to his graduate studies, he completed a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from The George Washington University.
Hamad is passionate about adopting a multidisciplinary approach to understanding contemporary events, especially geopolitics, emphasizing the study of history and religion. This methodology, which he began to gravitate towards during his graduate studies, is integral to his work at GLAFPOL, allowing him to provide nuanced and comprehensive analyses that enhance our understanding of the dynamic landscape in Somalia.
